Abstract:

New approaches to describe nuclear forces and NN scattering at intermediate energies of 0.4–1.4 GeV are considered. It is shown that the main partial waves for NN scattering in the indicated energy range can be described with a simple combination of a single-pion exchange and a pole in the s-channel that corresponds to the observed dibaryon resonance in a given partial wave. The resonance parameters which are needed for the simultaneous quantitative fitting of elastic and inelastic phase shifts very well agree with the corresponding values found in numerous experiments.
Further studies showed that not only the intermediate energy region, but the entire low-energy region which determines nuclear phenomena, is determined entirely by the same dibaryon resonances with the same parameters. This brings a completely new look on the main nuclear phenomena at low energies, such as the saturation of nuclear forces and the constancy of nuclear density, pairing, etc
