Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics celebrates its 60th anniversary

Organization, 29 November 2017

Dear colleagues and friends!

The Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics of JINR celebrates its 60th anniversary today. Its history is full of outstanding achievements, names of talented scientists, engineers and employees JINR is rightly proud of. The establishment of the Laboratory is connected with such prominent physicists as D.I.Blokhintsev, I.M.Frank, F.L.Shapiro. The constellation of pulsed neutron sources of IBR, IBR-30, IBR-2 developed by FLNP researchers provided JINR with leading positions in the field of neutron research and gave an opportunity to implement a series of contributions that went down to history forever.

Today, FLNP staff honorably continues their predecessors’ work, sticks to high standards of scientific research that were set when the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was established, provides continuity of generations of scientists. The laboratory knows the true value of intellectual creative work, respects traditions and thinks long-term. Nowadays, the IBR-2 fast periodic pulsed reactor with its unique array of spectrometers is one of the JINR basic facilities attracting physicists from numerous countries by its ample opportunities for conducting fundamental and applied research. Current user policy for the IBR-2 spectrometers is a baseline for other JINR basic facilities. The Intense REsonance Neutron source (IREN) was put into operation, and some experiments were started. In the nearest future, this facility will be brought into permanent operation and will be available for physicists as well as the IBR-2. The Laboratory works at development of a new generation source that will be supported by the JINR Directorate. This new Source facility will make it possible to keep leading positions of JINR in the field of neutron research.

JINR Directorate believes that FLNP staff will achieve the highest results, greatly contribute to world science development basing on the gathered experience and knowledge, and maintaining traditions.

JINR Directorate congratulates FLNP employees on the anniversary; wish them success in their blueprints implementation, further international cooperation development, and reinforcement by new highly skilled specialists and talented young scientists.
