Dubna: Science, Cooperation, Progress. Weekly JINR Newspaper

“Dubna: science, cooperation, progress” weekly JINR Newspaper. Published since November 1957.

While most popular mass publication aim to make scientific truths accessible to the general demographic, the JINR Weekly instead targets a very particular audience of researchers, engineers, and highly skilled workers. This is the unique characteristic of our newspaper and a challenge for its editorial team balancing a popular style with exceptional scientific rigour and accuracy, as sensationalism is alien to both our authors and readers.

We stand for the international nature of science, for the fellowship of researchers, and for progress in all human activities.

A. S. Girsheva, a Dubna Newspaper editor, 1984–1996

At an international research centre, there is a close link between studies and collaboration among scientists from different countries, which has been another leading topic since the very first issues. Almost all the leading researchers from the Member States whose names grace the alleys of the Institute’s grounds have either authored articles for the newspaper or readily given interviews to its correspondents. Thus, the Dubna Weekly has become an international scientific forum discussing outstanding research results and technical achievements. At the same time, the authors keep in mind JINR’s role as a unique advanced training hub for researchers and engineers from all Member States. The path of a scientist’s development is another central theme of the newspaper. By reading about the work of both eminent and young scientists, one can gain a deeper understanding of how science is done, how demanding it is, and how difficult the “path to its shining peaks” truly is.

The Dubna newspaper is a part of JINR’s life that is as essential as preprints, the library, seminars, and conferences…

Week after week, it chronicles the everyday life of science as reflected through the work of JINR and its employees
