Abstract:
Dipole toroidal modes appear in many fields of physics. Using a combination of high-resolution inelastic scattering experiments with photons, electrons and protons, we identify candidates for toroidal dipole excitations in the 58Ni nucleus.
The main attention is paid to inelastic scattering of electrons. The theoretical analysis is performed within the self-consistent Quasiparticle Random-Phase Approximation. It is demonstrated that transverse electron scattering form factors represent a relevant experimental observable to prove the toroidal nature of the states. The results of the work have been recently published in Phys. Rev. Lett. v.133, 232502 (2024).
