Scientific leader: Valery Shvetsov

Date and Time: Wednesday, 21 May 2025, at 11:00 AM

Venue: FLNP Conference Hall, Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics

Seminar topic: “Lithium: The white gold of the 21st century”

Speaker: Ivan Ruskov (Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, TANGRA Collaboration)

Abstract:

This informative lecture will discuss some of the past, present, and future scientific research on the interaction of neutrons with lithium isotopes. This topic is of exceptional importance in various fields, from the study of nucleosynthesis in the Universe to the production of lithium batteries and the peaceful or military use of fusion energy. The speaker will give a brief overview of current research trends and future directions in this critical area of neutron nuclear science. Particular attention will be paid to obtaining more accurate and reliable nuclear data on the reactions of neutrons with lithium. Such data is necessary to expand our understanding of nuclear reaction mechanisms and their practical use.
