  1. Seminar topic: “Methods of analysis of processes with leptons and jets with the CMS Detector at the LHC”

    Speaker: Olga Kodolova

    Abstract:

The processes with leptons and jets in the final state were investigated in pp interactions at energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. During the research, specific algorithms for calibrating the hadron calorimeter, reconstructing jets and muons were developed for pp and AA collisions.

Differential spectra and jet characteristics were measured in Runs 1 and 2 of the LHC. For the first time, electroweak Z-boson production accompanied by two jets was observed at pp interaction energies of 7 and 8 TeV with a significance of 2.6 and 5, respectively, and its cross section was measured. For the first time, an excess of events with a two-muon mass of 28 GeV was observed in the mass spectrum of dimuons produced accompanied by a b-jet in two complementary categories of events at a pp collision energy of 8 TeV. The report presents plans for analyzing lepton and jet processes in Run 3 of the LHC, as well as for testing the High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) for Run 4.

  2. Seminar topic: “Statistical analysis of the evidence of the dimuon resonance at 28 GeV in the CMS at the LHC”

    Speaker: Alexander Nikitenko

    Abstract:

Statistical analysis of the dimuon resonance of 28 GeV observed in Run I LHC data will be presented together with the blind analysis of Run II data.
