The seminar presents results of numerical modelling of laser ablation of materials in semi-bounded samples within a single thermal conductivity equation, where the laser’s effect on the sample is accounted for using a source function in the thermal conductivity equation. This source function is often specified in factored form, i.e., as a product of two functions, one of which describes the laser intensity distribution within the sample, and the other describes the time dependence of the laser intensity. A thermal spike model describes thermal processes as described by two interconnected thermal conductivity equations for the electron gas and the crystal lattice. According to this model, laser energy is first transferred to the electron gas, and then to the crystal lattice. This effect is absent in the conventional thermal conductivity equation model. Numerical results will be present for the aforementioned samples using this model. Current results of numerical simulations of laser ablation of materials will be present using the thermal spike model for semi-confined samples. The problems that need to be solved in further research are presented.
