Phenomenology beyond the BCS theory

Seminars

SEMINAR ON LOW-ENERGY NUCLEAR PHYSICS

Date and Time: Tuesday, 16 May 2017, at 11:00 AM

Venue: Blokhintsev Hall (4th floor), Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics

Seminar topic: «Phenomenology beyond the BCS theory»

Speaker: D.V. Anghel (Department of Theoretical Physics, IFIN-HH, Romania)

Abstract:

Making a slight generalization of the BCS model, by allowing the chemical potential to take different values inside the attraction band, I show that the phenomenology can be dramatically enriched. This may lead to a discontinuous phase transition (the energy gap has a jump at the phase transition), two solutions for the energy gap equations, etc. I show both zero temperature [1] and finite temperature results [2].
