Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems
Joint Laboratory Seminar
Date and Time: Tuesday, 16 June 2026, at 15:00
Venue: Conference Hall, Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, online on Zoom
Seminar topic: “Indian Neutrino Programmes and future plan”
Speaker: Gobinda Majumder (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research – TIFR, Mumbai,India)
The experimental high energy physics in India was initiated by Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhabha (who is known for the Bhabha scattering) using the balloon flights as well as GM counters in commercial flights. Then he initiated a series of experiments at Kolar Gold field, which was the deepest underground laboratory during the sixties to nineties. In the absence of any accelerator in India, we have continued to do experiments based on the natural sources as well as reactor neutrinos. The most ambitious initiative was the India-Based Neutrino Observatory (INO), which did not materialise. I will talk about various neutrino programmes and related instrumentations in India and the plan for the future homegrown experiments.
