Abstract:

Non-perturbative QCD structure of baryons and baryon-baryon interactions determines the very existence of baryons and nuclear matter. The basis for determining this structure is experimental data on short-range nucleon-nucleon interactions. However, there is practically no direct information about the nucleon-nucleon collisions probing the region of the quark center of nucleons.
To obtain such information a study of central, head-on, collisions of nucleons is proposed. The impact parameter of the collisions should be less than the radius of the repulsive core of the nucleon-nucleon collisions to ensure the overlap of the central quark regions of the nucleons. The criteria for distinguishing such collisions and a possible program of experiments are discussed.
