Abstract:

In the NICA collider the polarization of protons and deuterons can be controlled in two modes: in “Preferred Spin” mode, when the collider’s structure determines a single stable polarization direction, and in “Spin Transparency” mode, when any polarization direction repeats after particle’s each turn, which means that the magnetic lattice of the collider is transparent to the spin. The NICA collider with two solenoidal snakes allows one to operate with polarized protons and deuterons in both modes and can work in one of three configurations: a collider without snakes, a collider with one snake, and a collider with two snakes. Depending on the chosen collider configuration, an essential transformation of the beam polarization dynamics occurs. The schemes of protons and deuterons beam polarization control in SPD/MPD detectors are presented. Single-turn and multi-turn spin-flipping systems, as well as on-line polarization monitoring systems are discussed. Both systems of spin-flipping and on-line polarimetry makes it possible to carry out the experiments with polarized beams at the NICA collider at the new level of the accuracy. The schemes of preservation of polarization during the beam acceleration to the experiment energy in the NICA complex are presented.
