AYSS seminar at JINR Scientists’ Club
Seminars
On 1 October 2025, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6 Joliot-Curie St, left side).
A FLNR researcher Nikita Kovrizhnykh will deliver a presentation titled “In search of the Island of Stability of superheavy elements”.
In the 1960s, scientists predicted the existence of the Island of Stability, an area of superheavy elements around the nucleus with Z = 114 and N = 184, which have a long half-life. In the late 1990s, experiments on the synthesis of superheavy elements (SHE) started at JINR in the DGFRS Gas-Filled Separator based on the U-400 Accelerator. Between 1998 and 2016, six new chemical elements were discovered, and 50 superheavy isotopes were synthesised and studied. In 2019, experiments began at the SHE Factory, a new experimental complex at JINR based on the DC280 Cyclotron. The first facility at the factory was the DGFRS-2 Gas-Filled Separator. Between 2019 and 2024, experiments were conducted on the synthesis of Mc, Fl, Cn, Ds, and Lv isotopes. Eight new isotopes were discovered, and the decay properties of 52 isotopes were studied and specified.
