AYSS seminar at JINR Scientists’ Club

Seminars

On 25 February 2026, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6 Joliot-Curie St, left side).

A BLTP senior researcher Kaushal Kumar Kesharpu will deliver a presentation titled “From Kitaev’s models to quantum computers”.

Quantum computers are expected to help solve problems beyond the capabilities of even the most powerful supercomputers, such as medication and materials modelling, combinatorial optimisation, and cryptography. Alexey Kitaev made significant contributions to quantum computing at the dawn of its development. His ideas and models – such as surface codes, topologically secure Majorana fermions, and quantum phase estimation – laid the foundation for modern quantum computing research. This talk will review the foundations of these models and discuss the field’s progress and prospects.
