On 27 May 2026, at 4:00 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists at JINR invites everyone interested to the next seminar that will take place in the Big Hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6 Joliot-Curie St, left side).
FLNR Nanocentre Head Pavel Apel will deliver a presentation “Modification of polymers by accelerated heavy ions: membrane and nanotechnology applications”.
At the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, beams of accelerated heavy ions are obtained using cyclic accelerators (cyclotrons). Ion irradiation of polymer films followed by chemical etching made it possible to produce the so-called track-etched membranes, which is an example of application of great scientific and technical significance. This talk provides a retrospective of the development of track-etched membrane technology at FLNR and other laboratories worldwide, along with a brief overview of its progress. Applications of track-etched membranes, as well as other micro and nanostructured materials produced using the ion track method, will be discussed.
