From 20 May to 25 June 2026, the JINR Scientists’ Club invites visitors to the “Bulgaria – the motherland of the Cyrillic alphabet” exhibition dedicated to the 1140th anniversary of Slavic writing.
The exhibition presents materials illustrating the exceptional role of Bulgarian culture and writing in the development and enrichment of the spiritual life of the Slavic peoples. For the cultural identity of the Slavs, the creation of the Glagolitic alphabet by Saints Cyril and Methodius, and, most importantly, the creation of the Cyrillic alphabet by their disciples, was an act of exceptional significance – an act that transformed them from pagan tribes into a unified community with its own cultural language. The Cyrillic alphabet formed the foundation of spirituality for the entire Orthodox Slavic world. Cyrillic is especially significant for the Russian and Bulgarian peoples. It cemented their spiritual ties, which survived a series of trials over the centuries and remained unbroken. It was the alphabet that facilitated the exchange of ideas and books, as well as mutual spiritual enrichment.
The opening ceremony will take place on 20 May, at 17:00.
Opening hours: weekdays from 14:00 to 19:00 at JINR Scientists’ Club.
