China enhances cooperation with NICA

On 2 – 3 July 2018, a workshop on accelerator issues of the NICA project with participation of colleagues from the Institute of Modern Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the People’s Republic of China (Lanzhou) was held in the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics. From the Chinese party, General Director in Chief for HIAF and CIADS projects Wenlong Zhan, Director of the HIAF project Guoqing Xiao, Deputy Director of the HIAF project Hongwei Zhao, leading staff members of the project Wei WU, Lizhen MA and Shan Sha took part in the workshop.

Detailed reports on both projects were heard at the meeting, excursions to the JINR laboratories were organized, discussion of possible cooperation was held, and directions of joint work were outlined.

Moreover, on 2 July, in the framework of the China-JINR cooperation, the second meeting of the joint Russian-Chinese Working Group of experts on implementation of the NICA project was held in the format of video conference. At the videoconference, the Russian party was represented by members of the Working Group: JINR Vice-Director, Leader of the NICA project V.D. Kekelidze, JINR Chief Scientific Secretary A.S. Sorin, JINR Assistant Director G.D. Shirkov, VBLHEP Deputy Director for science H.G. Khodzhibagiyan, Head of the VBLHEP Department V.M. Golovatyuk, Deputy Head of the VBLHEP Accelerating Department A.O. Sidorin and other invited experts.

A plan for participation of Chinese scientific organizations in the NICA project was discussed in the following fields: establishment of MPD, creation of inductive energy storage based on a magnet with a coil of high temperature superconductor, accelerator issues, issues of physics at NICA.
