On 27 March 2026, a working meeting of a delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia with the leadership of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research took place in Dubna. The negotiations resulted in the signing of a document to extend the JINR–Serbia cooperation roadmap, which defines the key vectors of joint work for the coming years.
The Serbian delegation included State Secretary at the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Serbia Marija Gnjatović and Deputy Director of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, coordinator of JINR-Serbia cooperation Marija Janković. During their visit to Dubna on 25–28 March, they got acquainted with the scientific infrastructure and main research areas of the Joint Institute by touring five laboratories: DLNP, VBLHEP, LRB, FLNR, and FLNP. In addition, the delegation participated in a session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States and attended the celebration of the Institute’s 70th anniversary at the Mir Cultural Centre.
A meeting with JINR leadership, held on 27 March, focused on prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation. Director of the Institute, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov stressed that Serbia is a long-standing and reliable strategic partner of the international scientific centre in Dubna.
“We are ready to expand our cooperation in fundamental and applied research”, Grigory Trubnikov said. “JINR can aid not only in the expert assessment of promising projects, but also in the creation of key equipment. Advanced infrastructure is what unites highly qualified specialists and attracts talented young people to science today”.
Marija Gnjatović, in turn, noted that cooperation with JINR is highly important in the light of Serbia’s plans to develop nuclear energy and peaceful nuclear technologies. “Our country needs to increase its human resource capacity. Since we have yet to construct our own large-scale infrastructure, the experience of the Joint Institute and the opportunity of using JINR’s unique research facilities are critical to Serbian scientists”, the State Secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Science noted.
The parties paid special attention to the research infrastructure development project at the Vinča Institute. The JINR Director expressed the readiness to provide the Serbian colleagues with the required scientific and technical expertise, based on the successful experience of developing and building similar facilities in the territories of the Institute’s Member States.
As a result of the meeting, a document was signed to extend the roadmap for cooperation between JINR and the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia, and agreements were reached on holding joint events in 2026. For example, JINR Days will be held in Serbia in the summer, and a group of scientific supervisors and experts from Serbian organizations will pay a working visit to Dubna in the fall. In addition, the Institute received an official invitation to present its projects at the International Fair of Technics and Technical Achievements and the international specialised EXPO-2027 in Belgrade.
