Joint delegation from Russia and Belarus visited JINR

On 28 November, delegations of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects of strengthening the Institute’s cooperation with Russia and Belarus in science and technology.

The visit’s programme included an introduction to the key objects of the JINR scientific infrastructure. At the Laboratory of High Energy Physics, the delegates toured the NICA Complex to learn about the project’s progress and importance to the international scientific community. In addition, they got acquainted with the interactive JINR Main Facilities exhibition at the Mir Cultural Centre, demonstrating the key areas of the Institute’s fundamental and applied studies.

At the working meeting with the leadership of the Joint Institute, the participants noted the importance of seeing JINR and its research infrastructure in person. They expressed hope that further strengthening the Russia–Belarus partnership as JINR Member States would create a solid foundation for new forms of multilateral cooperation in research, education, and innovation aimed at developing the scientific and technological potential of Russia and Belarus.

JINR Director, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Grigory Trubnikov, Vice-Director, RAS Academician Vladimir Kekelidze, Chief Scientific Secretary Sergey Nedelko, and Legal Department Head Anton Kharevich took part in the meeting with the delegations.

The Russian delegation included Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin, his deputy Natalia Nikonorova, a Committee member Viktor Kress, and leading advisors to the Committee – Ellada Frolova and Eldar Kubadiev.

The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus was represented by Chair of the Permanent Mission on International Affairs and National Security Sergei Aleinik, his deputy Dmitry Zhuk, and Head of the Secretariat of the Permanent Mission Oksana Melnikovich.
