Applications are now being accepted for the 26th International Baikal Summer School on Physics of Elementary Particles and Astrophysics. The event will take place from 11 to 18 July 2026, in the Bolshie Koty village (Irkutsk region, Russia) on the shore of Lake Baikal.
The school programme includes:
- lectures by outstanding experts in particle physics, multi-messenger astronomy, neutrino physics, gamma-ray astronomy, high-energy astrophysics, the Standard Model and physics beyond it, as well as gravity;
- workshops on the simulation of physical facilities and hands-on tutorials with real detectors;
- student presentations and a poster session;
- intensive discussions in student groups under the guidance of scientific mentors.
A special part of the programme is the scientific projects related to the school’s topics. Work on these projects will bring participants together into teams competing for prizes. However, the main reward will be a deeper understanding of fundamental scientific questions and the development of valuable teamwork skills.
Young researchers, postgraduate students, and highly motivated undergraduate students are invited to apply.
Working language of the school: English.
Applications are accepted until 15 May 2026 via the event’s Indico page.

The Baikal Summer School on Physics of Elementary Particles and Astrophysics was jointly established by Irkutsk State University (ISU) and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research under a cooperation agreement. The main objective of the school is to educate and train young specialists in modern aspects of particle physics and astrophysics under the guidance of leading theoretical and experimental physicists. The school also fosters professional networking and helps young scientists determine their future research directions. Sponsorship support for the event is provided by the Teach-In Scientific and Methodological Center (Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation).
