Dissertation councils

The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) is a unique international intergovernmental scientific organization authorized to independently award Candidate of Sciences and Doctor of Sciences degrees.
Since 1 September 2019, JINR has operated six Dissertation Councils that accept and conduct defences of dissertations in the following key areas of modern physics: Particle Physics Heavy Ion Physics Nuclear Physics Condensed Matter Physics Information Technologies and Computational Physics Theoretical Physics

The activities of JINR Dissertation Councils are carried out in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation — as the country hosting the Institute — and JINR’s internal local regulatory documents.

The main objectives of the JINR Dissertation Councils are to ensure international standards for evaluating scientific research and to support the integration of young specialists into the global scientific community. Thus, the Dissertation Councils reinforce JINR’s status as one of the leading centres for training highly qualified scientific personnel.

By 2026, the total number of successful defences at JINR had approached 150. A JINR degree is not only a mark of the highest quality of scientific work but also a powerful launchpad for a successful career in science.

For the convenience of applicants, JINR provides the JINR Information System for Scientific Certification (ISSC), which allows submission of documents electronically.

You can register in the system on the official website of JINR Dissertation Councils.
