Virtual tour to the CMS (CERN)

Education

On 19 March 2016, at 3.00 pm a Virtual tour to the CMS (CERN) by videoconference will be held in the Blokhintsev Universal Public Library of JINR. The tour will be guided by engeneers and scientists of CMS, they will explain the physics and technology of the experiment and answer questions of an audience.

The CMS Experiment (Compact Muon Solenoid) at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN is an international collaboration of scientists joined to study fundamental properties of the microcosm. The virtual tour allows participants to see the equipment of the CMS experiment: it starts at the CMS assembly (surface hall) near the French village of Cessy, moves to the CMS Control Center, and then into underground experimental halls.

The Virtual tour is timed to 20th International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists and Specialists in the frames of the 60th JINR Anniversary.

Before the official opening in the frames of the festive events, without leaving the library, participants could view the remarkable exhibition Art@CMS which promotes the meaningful dialogue between science and art, bringing together scientists from the CMS experiment at CERN with artists from all around the world.
