138th session of JINR Scientific Council

On 15–16 September, the 138th session of the Scientific Council of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research will take place at the JINR International Conference Centre in a hybrid format. JINR SC members will hear a report by the Director of the Institute Grigory Trubnikov, discuss the JINR Topical Plan for 2026, and consider recommendations of the Programme Advisory Committees held in June 2025. In addition, the session will include the election of FLNR JINR Deputy Directors and the awarding of JINR employees.

The session will start with a report by Grigory Trubnikov on the current activities and directions of strategic development of the Institute. Chairs of the JINR Programme Advisory Committees Itzhak Tserruya, Valery Nesvizhevsky, and Dénes Lajos Nagy will introduce the participants to the recommendations adopted at the meetings of PACs for Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics, and Condensed Matter Physics in June 2025. The SC session will continue with scientific talks: Professor of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Song Yuntao will discuss modern studies and prospects in plasma physics, and Professor Khuyagbaatar Jadambaa (GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, Germany) will make a presentation on the landscape of superheavy nuclei. At the end of the first day, Deputy Directors of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions will be elected. In addition, a presentation of The Attraction of Science 5 book by a journalist and writer Shirmamed Nazarli from Azerbaijan will take place at the JINR Scientists’ Club as part of the session.

On 16 September, the meeting will continue with talks by young scientists, recommended by Programme Advisory Committees. They will discuss planned dilepton measurements in the MPD Experiment at the NICA Collider, nobelium isotope studies, and tomography data analysis in materials science using neural networks. The 2024 JINR Prize winners will receive honorary diplomas for the best scientific works, including methodological and technical studies. In addition, the second day’s programme will include a ceremony to award the Dzhelepov Prize and the titles of the JINR Honorary Doctors. A general discussion and adoption of the resolution of the Scientific Council will conclude the 138th meeting.
