Speakers: A. D. Kovalenko, I. G. Alekseev

Abstract:

One of the mandatory devices in the collider experiments is a pair of calorimeters to detect neutral particles going at zero angle (ZDC) from interaction point (IP) to the both sides. There are several tasks solved by these calorimeters for both proton and heavy ion collisions. High precision measurement of the luminosity is the most important one during the collider start phase. Essential feature of the device for NICA collider is an operation inside the cryostat module.

The talk gives a review of ZDCs basing on RHIC and LHC experience and presents the conceptual design of the ZDC for the SPD experiment at NICA. A start version of the ZDC for the first year of NICA operation is presented. A highly granulated heterogeneous design of the ZDC proposed for SPD experiment is considered also.
