From 14 to 19 September 2026, the 16th international seminar on charged particle accelerators in memory of Professor Vladislav Sarantsev is taking place at the International Conference Centre of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. Held at JINR every two years, the event brings together representatives of the professional accelerator technology community.
The seminar brings together representatives from laboratories at JINR, Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics, Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INP SB RAS), Lebedev Physical Institute, Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics, Skobeltsyn Institute of Nuclear Physics of Moscow State University, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Advanced Research Institute of Inorganic Materials, and Efremov Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus, including many young scientists who will present their research in a poster competition.
At the opening of the seminar, Assistant Director of the Institute for the Development of Biomedical Projects, Deputy Chair of the event’s organizing committee, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Shirkov highlighted that the first seminar on charged particle accelerators in memory of Vladislav Sarantsev took place in 1995, and since then this tradition has been carefully preserved.
Vice-Director of the Institute, RAS Academician Vladimir Kekelidze noted that Vladislav Sarantsev, a well-known scientist, made a significant contribution to the development of accelerator technology, particularly to the creation of the JINR synchrophasotron injection complex. “The desire for continuous research indwelt Vladislav Sarantsev, and having inherited it, we try to uphold this standard. This seminar not only reflects and captures the existing achievements in accelerator technology, but also opens up areas that are not yet known due to the activity of participants who are always trying to find non-standard solutions. Here we will learn about new developments that will eventually make history. Thus, we take pride in the unique solutions used when creating the NICA Accelerator Complex, and today we expect that NICA’s launch will mark a new stage both for the Institute and for world science”, Vladimir Kekelidze emphasised.
This year, special attention of the participants will be paid to two megascience projects being launched on the territory of the Russian Federation – the topic of the first two talks of the plenary session. Deputy Head of the VBLHEP JINR Accelerator Divison Valery Lebedev made a presentation titled “Goals and expectations of the upcoming NICA run”, and INP SB RAS Sector Head Pavel Piminov gave a talk “State of the Siberian Circular Photon Source (SKIF) – a 4+ generation synchrotron radiation source “.
The scientific agenda of the seminar covers a wide range of topics:
- ultrahigh energy collider projects;
- modern ion accelerators and colliders;
- cyclic electron-positron colliders;
- generation of coherent radiation in a free electron laser;
- dynamics of charged particle beams;
- new acceleration methods;
- accelerators for medical and applied purposes.
Over the course of five days, participants will discuss issues of accelerator science and technology, physics of charged particle beams, the development of new projects for lepton and hadron colliders, improvements to existing facilities as well as the use of accelerators for scientific and applied, including medical, purposes.
