From 9 to 11 September 2026, the Saint Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II hosted the All-Russian Physics Teachers’ Forum gathering over 200 physics teachers, methodologists, scientists, and education personnel from all regions of the country. Representatives of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research spoke at a plenary session. JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov delivered an open lecture for teachers, and Head of the Department for Development and Creation of Educational Programmes of the JINR University Centre Yuri Panebrattsev participated in discussing the introduction of unified state textbooks on high-school physics.
On the second day of the event, the Director of the Joint Institute delivered an open lecture entitled “Physics of the fundamental properties of matter: some problems and prospects”, dedicated to the global particle and nuclear physics experiments and unresolved challenges facing new generations of researchers. The discussion of the talk turned into an expert dialogue with the participation of Mining University Rector Vladimir Litvinenko. The key topic was the role of modern scientific methods, including those developed at JINR, in studying the Earth’s interior and creating new technologies for prospecting mineral resource deposits.
During the forum, a meeting took place between Grigory Trubnikov and Vladimir Litvinenko. The parties discussed aspects of teaching physics to schoolchildren majoring in engineering. JINR and the Mining University plan to advance partnership in this field.
During the discussion of updating the content of the physics school subject, Yuri Panebrattsev made a talk “Unified state basic textbook in physics for grades 10–11”. By 1 September 2027, unified physics textbooks for year 10 will be delivered to all Russian schools, and a year later, year 11 students will be introduced to them as well. The unified state basic textbooks are being developed by a team of authors from the JINR University Centre under the scientific supervision of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov. Translated into English, the textbooks will be available to the schoolchildren of the JINR Member States.
The forum’s leitmotif was the improvement of physics education in schools and its role in preparing personnel for Russia’s scientific and technological progress. The programme included public lectures, master classes, and discussions on modernising the school physics course, unified state textbooks for high schoolers as well as the results of external assessment of educational achievements and modern approaches to teaching the subject.
On the first day, a plenary meeting took place with the participation of the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergei Kravtsov and an interdepartmental meeting on the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for Improving the Quality of Natural Science Education until 2030. The forum organizers are the Russian Ministry of Education, the St. Petersburg Mining University, and the Lednev Institute of Teaching Content and Methods.
