Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Ochbadrakh Chuluunbaatar is a full member of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences since 2018. Having started his scientific career at JINR in 1999 as a junior researcher at the Laboratory of Computing Techniques and Automation at JINR, he worked his way up to the Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Information Technologies at JINR (since 2019). Academician Chuluunbaatar co-heads the topic titled “Methods, algorithms, and software for modelling physical systems, mathematical processing, and analysis of experimental data” in the JINR Topical Plan. His scientific interests are predominantly mathematical modelling, variational numerical methods of studying few-body quantum systems, and complex programming. He co-authored over 200 research papers and several monographs on computational physics, including works co-written with his scientific leader Tugal Zhanlav.
Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Academician Zhanlav specialises in differential equations and computational mathematics. His key scientific articles focus on the development of new numerical methods of discretisation and linearisation and their application to solving various nonlinear problems of theoretical physics. In 1985–1992, he was a LCTA JINR senior researcher and defended his doctoral dissertation in the laboratory. In 2012, he was elected JINR Honorary Doctor for outstanding contributions to the Institute in terms of the development of priority areas of research and technology and the training of scientific personnel.
Academicians Chuluunbaatar and Zhanlav are the only laureates to be honoured with the State Prize of Mongolia in fundamental sciences twice. In 2012, they were awarded their first prize jointly as well.
