The Higher School of Economics Secondary School together with the HSE School of Cultural Studies visiting JINR.

The JINR Visit Centre, which opened its doors to visitors on 16 May 2016, once again welcomed the HSE Secondary School students.

Being one the largest scientific centres in Russia and possessing well-established cultural and sport traditions, Dubna has always drawn public attention. The HSE Secondary School students chose the science town as the subject of the study within the framework of its three-day field expedition, dedicated to towns with a high cultural and intellectual development level. The students conducted a study on the everyday life of the town which name has been perpetuated in the Periodic table of elements, which also hosts the first international and one of the main city-forming enterprises – JINR.

The students were welcomed at the JINR Visit Centre, where Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department Dmitry Kamanin made a presentation on the history, activities, main research directions and the latest achievements of the Institute. Afterwards, the round-table sessions together with the interviews were held with Dmitry Kamanin, a researcher from the JINR Laboratory of radiation biology Yuri Severyukhin and International Communications Officer of the JINR International Cooperation Department Anastasia Suschevich.

The programme also included an excursion to the JINR Cultural Centre “Mir”, an interview with its Director S. Ferdzhulyan and a visit to the Blokhintsev Universal Public Library (a part of JINR Social Infrastructure), which appeals to a considerable number of visitors with its wide variety of hosted events, including popular science ones. At the library the students interviewed the chief librarian Maria Pilipenko, who spoke about the new formats of these events, and conducted a survey among the visitors in order to analyse the audience of the library.

Cooperation with the Secondary School of Higher School of Economics has lasted for over three years, including joint work in the independent project “Summer school” (which is actively supported by JINR), numerous excursions organization for the Secondary School and HSE students at JINR and attending lectures at the Blokhintsev Library.

Thanks to the opportunities presented by the Visit Centre, the new format of introductory lectures as well as professional orientation and science popularisation events have become available to its visitors.
