News, 10 June 2021

Joint plans of the parties discussed include reconstruction of the accelerator complex based on the U-150M in Kazakhstani Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) and the creation of a JINR branch in the INP in Almaty.

This was discussed on 10 June at a meeting of General Director of the INP of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Plenipotentiary Representative of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in JINR Batyrzhan Karakozov with JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov.

The parties unanimously praised the current cooperation of JINR and the Republic of Kazakhstan. Grigory Trubnikov noted that one of the priorities of the JINR activities is the development of the scientific infrastructure of the JINR Member States. “It is also important that intellectual property, technologies, results of scientific experiments – everything created in the Institute – is a collective property that belongs to all the Member States on an equal basis,” the JINR Director highlighted.

“We are proud of the achievements of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. They are made with the contribution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, our employees, our active scientists. We see great prospects for our further joint work,” Batyrzhan Karakozov noted.

The parties discussed in detail the reconstruction of the accelerator complex based on the U-150M in Almaty Institute of Nuclear Physics highlighting the development of the future physical programme of the facility as a priority task. Moreover, participants negotiated on the establishment of a JINR branch on the INP basis. The parties discussed the cooperation enhancement in the fields of theoretical and experimental particle and heavy-ion physics, in particular, within the framework of possible INP’s participation in the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC in CERN. In addition, participants discussed prospects for a joint research programme on hydrogen energy.

The discussion of these issues will continue during the visit of a high-level delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan planned in the frames of festive events on 22-23 July dedicated to the 65th JINR anniversary.

The meeting was attended by JINR Vice-Director Sergey Dmitriev, FLNR Director Sergey Sidorchuk, Head of the Department of Budget and Economic Policy Nikolay Kalinin, Head of the Financial Planning Department Liubov Uvarova, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department Anna Kotova. INP Deputy General Director for Science Daniyar Janseitov, Director of the INP Branch Maxim Zdorovets, as well as Heads of the national group of Kazakhstan in JINR Aidos Issadykov and Damir Aznabayev represented the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The visit of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to JINR takes place in Dubna from 8 to 12 June. The programme included a visit to the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions where a number of working meetings with the management and leading Laboratory’s scientists has been organized. Moreover, Batyrzhan Karakozov has met with the national group of Kazakhstan in JINR. He has listened to the reports on the group’s work, met responsible employees in the laboratories of the Institute, as well as discussed a grant programme of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
