NEC’2017 – the second one in Montenegro

News, 26 September 2017

On 25 September 2017, the 26th International Symposium on Nuclear Electronics and Computing NEC’2017 was started in Montenegro, in the town of Budva, a picturesque Adriatic coastal resort. The Symposium has been traditionally held by JINR since 1963 (more than half a century!), and it is the ninth time when the Symposium was organized jointly by JINR and CERN. The Symposium is attended by about 140 leading experts in the fields of modern computer and network technology, distributed computing and nuclear electronics from 15 countries.

The scientific programme of the Symposium traditionally covers a wide range of issues and has a high level of reports of famous scientists and creative youth. The Symposium will last until 1 October.

At the opening of the Symposium the following persons greeted the audience: Co-chairmen of the Organizing Committee V.V. Korenkov (JINR) and T. Kurtyka (CERN), the representative of the local organizing committee A.I. Khrgian (Montenegro), A. Klimentov (CERN, Brookhaven), representatives of sponsor organizations. V.V. Korenkov conveyed to the Symposium participants the cordial greetings from JINR Director academician V.A. Matveev, who takes part in the session of the RAS these days.

In the frames of the Symposium, the Second International School on Heterogeneous Computing Infrastructure will be held with the participation of students from leading universities of the JINR Member States. The School topics aimed at studying such issues as big data in science and business, distributed systems for data taking and data processing, management and storage of information, machine learning, application of graphic processors and high-performance computing systems for data processing of physics experiments. Applicants of the School should have submitted posters of their work and participate in competitive admissions — as a result, only 32 participants went to Budva who had been selected from one hundred of contestants. During the School, students will defend their work and the best posters will be selected on the results of the defence procedures. The winners will have the right to represent their reports at the plenary sessions on the last day of the Symposium.
