UNESCO Global Conference with JINR participation started in France

On 15 July 2026, the first Global Conference of the Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development began in Paris. A delegation of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, headed by Director, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov, is participating in the international forum. As part of the three-day event, representatives of JINR and the Institute’s partners will hold a special session dedicated to the 70th anniversary of JINR’s establishment.

UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Vice-President of the Republic of Guatemala Karin Herrera, Chairperson of the UNESCO Executive Board Nasser Bin Hamad Al Hinzab, and CERN Director-General Mark Thomson delivered welcome speeches at the opening ceremony.

On 17 July, at 15:55 Central European Summer Time (CEST), the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research will organize a special session at the UNESCO headquarters dedicated to the 70th JINR anniversary, its interdisciplinary research programme and long experience in international cooperation. Background information

The International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD, 2024–2033) was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly. Led by UNESCO, the initiative aims to unite the scientific community to overcome global challenges, advance countries’ research and technologies, and promote open science in the interest of all humanity.
