Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Guatemala to RF Mr. Herbert Estuardo Meneses Coronado with his spouse visited Dubna on 10 July 2014. This visit is a continuation of the visit of Mr. Herbert Estuardo Meneses Coronado who was a member of a delegation of Ambassadors of Latin American countries on 4 March 2014.

At a meeting with in the JINR Directorate, represented by JINR Vice-Directors M.G.Itkis and G.V. Trubnikov, JINR Scientific Leader V.G. Kadyshevsky and Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department Dr. D.V.Kamanin, the guests discussed possibilities of development of the collaboration of Universities of Guatemala and scientific organizations with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

The discussion at the JINR Directorate was continued with an excursion to the DLNP complex of proton therapy and the FLNP sector of neutron activation analysis and applied research. The guests were interested in activities of the sector which are held in the frames of the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution on the UN programme “Atmospheric Heavy Metal Deposition in Europe -estimations based on moss analysis” coordinated by M.V. Frontasieva. Now this program extends to south-east countries, including the Caucasus, Kazakhstan, China, India, etc. It is very likely that this visit will initiate a similar activity in Latin America in collaboration with JINR. Anyway, a protocol on scientific and technical cooperation which will allow involvement of young Guatemalan professionals in this activity will be signed in the nearest future with one of Universities of Guatemala.
