AYSS seminar in JINR Scientists’ Club

Seminars

On 22 March 2023, at 4:15 PM, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists of JINR invites you to the regular seminar that takes place in the hall of the JINR Scientists’ Club (6, Joliot-Curie street, left side).

Maksim Zuev will deliver a report “Govorun” Supercomputer for JINR tasks”.

Abstract: In 2018, the “Govorun” Supercomputer was put into operation at the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies. It is a heterogeneous computing environment that contains Intel CPUs of different types and NVIDIA Tesla V100 graphics accelerators. The heterogeneous structure of the supercomputer allows users to choose optimal computing architectures for solving their tasks.
To enhance the efficiency of solving user tasks, as well as to expand the efficiency of utilising both computing resources and data processing and storage resources, a number of special IT solutions have been implemented on the “Govorun” Supercomputer. The first type of IT solutions lies in resource orchestration, which means that computational elements and data storage elements form independent computing and data storage fields. Due to it, the user can allocate for his task the required number and type of compute nodes, as well as the required volume and type of data storage systems.
A hierarchical hyperconverged data processing and storage system with a software-defined architecture is referred to the second type of IT solutions. The implementation of this system is caused by the fact that modern supercomputers are used not only as traditional computing environments for carrying out massively parallel calculations, but also as systems for Big Data analysis and artificial intelligence tasks that arise in different scientific and applied tasks. Therefore, a hierarchical hyperconverged data processing and storage system with a software-defined architecture was implemented at the “Govorun” Supercomputer to accelerate the processing of large amounts of data. Heterogeneous structure of the supercomputer, orchestration mechanism, and implemented hierarchical system of data processing and storage allow accelerate the research conducted at the Institute dramatically.

There will be a small coffee break at 4:00 PM, which precedes the seminar. The report will start at 4:15 PM.

If you are going to join the event of 22 March, please take part in the survey via the link not later than 4:00 PM 21 March.
