JINR and Uzbekistan to conduct joint work in materials science

News, 07 November 2023

On 3 November, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov met with President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Plenipotentiary Representative of Uzbekistan in JINR Bekhzod Yuldashev at the Directorate of the Joint Institute. They reached an agreement on the implementation of a joint research programme with the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan on the radiation modification of the conductive properties of high-temperature superconducting tapes for JINR accelerator complexes.

In addition, the participants discussed issues of cooperation between JINR and Uzbekistan, in particular, opportunities to strengthen scientific ties. The participants noted the progressive development of cooperation in the fields of nuclear analytics, structural analysis, information technology, and seismology. Together with FLNP JINR specialists, a unique highly sensitive facility for the structural analysis of substances by neutron radiography and tomography has been created at INP of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan in 2020. With MLIT JINR specialists’ support, a cloud computing system has been implemented in the INP of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. The system made it possible to increase the efficiency of using hardware resources and integrate the INP computing centre into the JINR cloud network. Next year, specialists plan to install and put into commission precision inclinometers developed in DLNP at JINR at the control sites of the Institute of Seismology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The participants especially noted the contribution of the Joint Institute to the training of national employees for academic institutions and universities of Uzbekistan. In addition, as one of the authors, Behzod Yuldashev presented Grigory Trubnikov with a recently published five-volume textbook Nuclear Technologies. The publication of the book was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Earlier it was presented to President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The textbook provides basic knowledge for bachelors, masters, and doctoral students of physics and technological higher educational institutions majoring in nuclear technology. It can also be useful for training specialists working in related fields of science and industry. Leading scientists of BLTP, FLNR, and FLNP at JINR are among reviewers of the publication.

JINR Vice-Director Latchesar Kostov and Head of the National Group of Uzbekistan at JINR Anvar Inoyatov participated in the meeting.
