On 24–26 March 2026, representatives of the Republic of Belarus visited the Joint Institute. Led by Plenipotentiary Representative of Belarus at JINR, Chair of the State Committee for Science and Technology (SCST) of the Republic of Belarus Denis Korzhitsky, the delegation participated in JINR Governing Bodies’ meetings and a celebration of the Joint Institute’s 70th anniversary, held a meeting with the National Group of JINR employees from Belarus, and toured the NICA Accelerator Complex.

The delegates included Head of the SCST Department of International Scientific, Technical and Innovation Policy Sergey Shuba and Deputy Director on International Scientific and Technical Collaboration at the Institute for Nuclear Problems of the Belarusian State University Yulia Fedotova.

At the meeting with Denis Korzhitsky, JINR Director, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Grigory Trubnikov expressed confidence in the further expansion of the Republic’s fruitful engagement in JINR’s activities.

The Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Belarus at JINR noted: “It is an honour for us to participate in the world-class studies of the Joint Institute. We appreciate the results of our cooperation and are satisfied with them. We expect to expand the Republic’s activities at the Institute, involving the competencies of the scientific centres not yet affiliated with JINR”.

The parties discussed personnel training in the interests of the Republic of Belarus and the organization of joint events, including The Actual Problems of Microworld Physics – an important school and conference serving as an “entry point” to JINR for the country’s researchers and specialists. Young Belarusian scientists defend their diplomas and dissertations at JINR, develop their professional skills, and then return to research centres in their homeland.

“Training personnel in the interests of the Member States is a very important area for JINR”, Institute’s Scientific Leader, RAS Academician Victor Matveev noted. “We aim to increase the number of specialists who will return to their country and get involved in developing new scientific fields there. At the same time, this increases the number of institutions and specialists who then participate in our studies”.

At the meeting, Acting Director of the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at JINR Andrey Butenko stressed the importance of the participation of the Republic’s specialists in the NICA Megascience Project: Belarusian organizations completed a substantial amount of high-precision work in the production of the collider magnets’ yoke.

Among participants of the meeting at the directorate were Chief Scientific Secretary Sergey Nedelko and Head of International Cooperation Department Otilia-Ana Culicov.
