The event began with a visit of the JINR delegation headed by the Director of the Institute, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia. During the meeting with Minister Dejan Vuk Stanković, the parties discussed prospects for developing joint scientific and educational projects and academic mobility programmes, including the organization of specialised summer schools. Special attention was paid to highly qualified personnel training. The Serbian side expressed high interest in developing new master’s programmes in nuclear physics for Serbian universities, as well as in the creation of dual degree programmes.
Collaboration in strategic scientific areas was the leitmotif of the meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation. The main topics of the negotiations with State Secretary Marija Gnjatović and representatives of the ministry were cooperation in cosmic studies, information technologies, as well as the creation of new objects of research infrastructure. JINR plans to increase the number of joint projects with Serbian specialists and expresses readiness to actively participate in developing the concept of a National Centre for Nuclear Research on the territory of the republic.
“Today we held very fruitful meetings with representatives of two state agencies. At JINR, we are truly delighted with how our relations with Serbia are developing. In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of Serbian scientists involved in joint work. We implement projects in biomedicine, information technologies, materials science, and fundamental physics. In the future, Serbia can become one of the European leaders in the application of nuclear physics methods in life sciences”, Grigory Trubnikov commented.
A significant part of the programme was dedicated to getting acquainted with Serbian scientific centres. The JINR leadership visited the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences to hold a working meeting with Director Slavko Dimović and undertake an introductory tour of the centre’s laboratories. In addition, the JINR scientists visited the Astronomical Observatory of Belgrade. In the second half of the day, the delegation went to the city of Novi Sad, to the BioSense Institute – a leading European organization implementing advanced technologies in agriculture.
