News, 09 April 2024

On 30 March, at the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University, the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists of JINR, together with the SINP MSU, organized a Day of particles and nuclei for junior students, dedicated to the Foundation Day of JINR.

Just five years after the foundation of JINR, in 1961, basic departments of the Institute were established at the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University. One of them was headed by the first director of JINR, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Dmitry Blokhintsev, the other was headed by Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Vladimir Veksler.

Nowadays, specialists are still trained in the fields of high energy physics, elementary particle physics, nuclear physics and neutronography at Dubna departments.

Scientists of the Institute have given lectures on the topics of scientific groups of JINR laboratories.

Wael Badawi, a leading researcher at the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics that opened the meeting, spoke about the use of Neutron Activation Analysis in archaeological and environmental research.

Ayagoz Baymukhanova, a researcher at the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, made a report “Radiochemical research at DLNP JINR”.

The meeting was concluded by Vratislav Chudoba, a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, with a talk about current research on exotic isotopes.

Lectures in a popular science format from widely and productively working representatives of the international scientific community met with great interest among students. The authors of the best questions asked to the speakers won prizes from the JINR University Centre.

In keeping with the tradition of the previous two years, similar events will be held regularly in autumn, 2024 at the Faculty of Physics of the Moscow State University.
