On 23-24 January, JINR hosted a visit by representatives of universities of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The delegation headed by Chairman of Khazar University (Baku), Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics Hamlet Isayev visited laboratories of the Joint Institute and met with the JINR Directorate. In addition, the delegation members held a seminar at the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems.

At the meeting in the JINR Directorate, the parties discussed opportunities to develop JINR-Azerbaijan cooperation. Engineering, natural, and information sciences, theoretical and applied physics, chemistry, biology, nanotechnology, and mathematics were mentioned among the most promising areas of future collaboration. JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov, JINR Vice-Directors Sergey Dmitriev and Latchesar Kostov, JINR Chief Scientific Secretary Sergey Nedelko, DLNP JINR Director Evgeny Yakushev, Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department Otilia-Ana Culicov, and Head of the National Group of Azerbaijan, DLNP JINR Senior Researcher Nazim Huseynov took part in the event. The Azerbaijan delegation, headed by Chairman of Khazar University, Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics Hamlet Isayev, included Head of the Department of Physics and Electronics at Khazar University Farida Tatardar, Professor of Biomedicine and Medicinal Chemistry, Head of the University’s Research Group Soodabeh Davaran, as well as Scientific Secretary of Baku State University Yegana Aliyeva.

One of the key points on the visit’s agenda was a seminar organized at the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems. At the event, the delegation members spoke about the main activities and research areas of Khazar University. They presented aspects of international collaboration in science and education and the university’s partner organizations in the world. The potential for expanding the JINR’s partner network in the Middle East through establishing connections with Khazar University was discussed. In addition, the representatives mentioned the coordination of educational programmes and internships at JINR for the Uiversity’s students from various countries. The delegation members also expressed interest in inviting JINR scientists to participate in the University’s educational activities and developing cooperation in academic mobility.

Chairman of Khazar University Hamlet Isayev noted that the visit aimed to strengthen scientific ties between educational institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan and JINR. “We are interested in all the fields of research represented in the seven laboratories of the Joint Institute. The focus of our meeting today was on specific collaboration plans and projects that we will work on together,” he added. Hamlet Isayev also mentioned that there are plans to organize events in Baku that will include a series of conferences, seminars, and meetings with students featuring leading scientists of the Joint Institute.

During the visit, the delegation reviewed JINR’s research directions and facilities of the Institute’s scientific infrastructure.
