The START programme (STudent Advanced Research Training) invites undergraduate and postgraduate students to take part in scientific research at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research under the supervision of leading scientists and engineers. Applications for the Winter Session 2027 are accepted at start.jinr.ru until 16 October 2026.
START offers young specialists a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in relevant research and engineering challenges as part of JINR’s international scientific teams. Participating in the programme allows students not only to get acquainted with the Institute’s advanced infrastructure, but also to select a topic for their future thesis. For many, this programme can mark the beginning of a scientific career at JINR.
Applications are welcome from students in natural sciences, engineering, and IT from all around the world: students who have completed their third year of undergraduate (Bachelor’s) studies, Master’s students, and first-year PhD students. Selected candidates will be invited for an on-site internship in Dubna lasting 6 to 8 weeks. The programme is fully funded.
Candidates are selected directly by the project supervisors based on the applications submitted.
To apply, candidates must register at start.jinr.ru, select a research topic of interest from the project list for the Winter Session 2027, and click the Apply button. The organisers emphasise that candidates should apply for the chosen topic immediately upon registration, without waiting for the registration form to be approved.
