15 February is the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia. The history of the associate membership of Serbia at JINR dates back to 2007, and the cooperation is now actively developing and taking new forms.

In 2023, two meetings of Serbia-JINR Joint Coordination Committee on Cooperation took place. In February, a JINR delegation led by Vice-Director Vladimir Kekelidze took part in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences. On 3 October 2023, a JINR delegation met with high-ranking science leaders of the Republic of Serbia in Belgrade.

A number of events were organized in cooperation with Serbian scientific centres during the past year. On 18 May 2023, Serbian scientists participated in the international working meeting on the development of the JINR University Centre project “Open information and educational environment to support fundamental and applied interdisciplinary research at JINR” alongside the representatives of universities of the JINR Member States and Associate Members. On 2 October 2023, the NICA Days 2023 International School started in a hybrid format in Belgrade. On 4-6 October, the 12th Collaboration Meeting of the MPD Experiment at the NICA Facility was held at the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences. In November, an online workshop “Modern Information Technologies in Biology and Medicine” took place. It was organized by MLIT and LRB JINR together with the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences and the Serbian Institute of Histology and Embryology.
