Excursions

Imagine this: your class stands at the entrance of a laboratory where discoveries that changed the world were once made. Where today, accelerators rival cities in scale, and neutrons and protons are not just textbook terms—but real particles you can “see” and study. At JINR, we invite school and university students to experience real science—not through a screen, but here in Dubna, at the heart of the international scientific community.

What will you see?

JINR’s guided tour programme is designed so that every visit becomes a memorable, inspiring, and educational event. Depending on the age, interests, and academic profile of the group, tours may include visits to:

  • The Synchrophasotron Research Facility — one of the first and most powerful accelerators of its time. Here, students learn how particle beams are created and why they matter to science.
  • The Neutron Physics Laboratory — where the properties of matter are studied using slow neutrons. Visitors see unique instruments operating at the IBR-2 nuclear reactor.
  • The Computing Centre — the “brain” of JINR, processing petabytes of data from experiments around the world, including CERN.
  • The Memorial Office of Academician I.V. Kurchatov — to understand how the atomic age began and how Dubna became a global science hub.
  • The JINR History Museum — featuring rare artefacts, scientific instruments, and personal belongings of the scientists who founded the Institute.

Who can attend?

We welcome:

  • School groups (starting from Grade 7);
  • College and specialised lyceum students;
  • University students;
  • Participants of Olympiads, scientific schools, and educational forums.

Tours are tailored to the audience’s age and background—from engaging storytelling for high schoolers to technically detailed overviews for physics undergraduates.

Programme features

  • Scientific guidance — tours are led by young scientists and JINR staff who not only know the subject but also know how to captivate an audience.
  • Interactive elements — live demonstrations, physical models, data visualisations, and VR presentations (when technically available).
  • Flexible scheduling — individual tours can be arranged on weekdays upon advance request.
  • Safety and comfort — all visited facilities meet strict safety standards; transport and rest areas can be arranged for groups.

How to organise a visit?

To bring a group to JINR, please:

  1. Submit a tour request via the official website uc.jinr.ru or send an email to education@jinr.ru.
  2. Specify: number of participants, age group, preferred dates, and areas of interest.
  3. Wait for confirmation and coordinate the final itinerary with a JINR University Centre coordinator.

We recommend submitting your request at least 3–4 weeks in advance—spaces are limited.

Give your students a day after which they’ll want to become scientists.
Because science doesn’t start with a formula—it starts with an impression.
