For school students

In order to shorten the distance between school and fundamental science, the JINR University Centre develops additional educational opportunities for school students.

The JINR Physics Days annually bring together teams of kids passionate about physics from different cities. In a sense, the Physics Days are a projection of JINR activities on the world of children and adolescents, an introduction to the model of an international scientific centre and studies conducted not by each researcher individually, but by a community of scientists from different organizations. Demonstrations of physical and chemical experiments, a robotics tournament, a trail of researchers with fascinating logical tasks, mathematical battles — these are an just the beginning of the Festival’s event list.

The annual International Computer School (ICS) aims to preserve and develop the intellectual potential of society. The ICS is an onsite summer children’s intellectual programme, in which the approach to education differs from the standard school system. The mentors do not give participants ready-made answers, as is customary in the classical extracurricular education system, but organize training in the form of research. At the ICS, students choose a topic of scientific or engineering work (project), and within two weeks, they work on studies or designs in the chosen field. Among the themes are physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, robotics, and others. The programme includes special elective courses (deepening and updating school knowledge), lectures by scientists and specialists, and a rich leisure programme.

The UC school physics workshop. In the laboratory of the UC physics workshop, students have the opportunity to reproduce basic physical phenomena on their own, get acquainted with various measurement methods, acquire skills in working with measuring instruments, and learn how to process the results. Please get acquainted with the list of available practical works, physical demonstrations, and projects, and find the contacts of the supervisor on the JINR UC workshop page.

The Interschool Physics and Mathematics Elective is a free physics and mathematics course for Dubna schoolchildren, held since 2003. It is open to everyone, regardless of their level of education and school grades. The mission of the elective is to develop students’ interest in natural and exact sciences, to support the desire to study physics and mathematics, as well as to develop the ability to think independently and apply existing knowledge.

The UC Lectorium for schoolchildren is a unique opportunity to learn about advanced scientific and technical discoveries and achievements first-hand. Lectures from JINR employees are designed to popularise science and expand the knowledge of schoolchildren using the example of research conducted at the Institute.

There are two formats of the Lectorium classes:

  • in person — for students of the Dubna city district (Moscow Region, Russia). The lecture takes place directly in the classroom of an education institution (school);
  • online — for students of schools of any cities and countries. The lecture is conducted online using videotelephony.

Please can get acquainted with the terms of participation and lecture topics on the JINR UC Lectorium page.
