Higher education

The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research has considerable potential in education and training in disciplines corresponding to the main directions of its studies. Although standard university education is not among the Institute’s primary tasks, students and postgraduates from Member States are offered a unique opportunity to join the research groups of JINR laboratories and work in physics, engineering sciences, informatics, and other fields.

JINR collaborates with leading universities in natural and exact sciences and develops programmes that supplement and support the educational programmes of its partner universities:

  • creates and coordinates a educational guidelines for all JINR-bases departments at leading universities in natural sciences;
  • organizes and coordinates thesis and industrial internships for students from partner universities based on contracts and agreements;
  • through the START programme, the Institute introduces students to its activities, offers the possibility to find a supervisor for their future bachelor’s, master’s, or candidate’s dissertations, and increases the chance of becoming part of JINR’s large international team;
  • provides students with the opportunity to get introduced to JINR online as part of the INTEREST programme;
  • supplements educational programmes aimed at training engineering and technical specialists with Engineering Training at modern physics facilities;

JINR has dissertation councils for particle physics, heavy ion physics, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, information technologies, and computational physics, as well as for theoretical physics.
