On 16 December, the Republic of Kazakhstan, a JINR Member State, celebrates one of its main national holidays – the Independence Day.

The JINR-Kazakhstan cooperation has a long, very successful history. The Republic of Kazakhstan, as part of the USSR, joined the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research since its foundation in 1956. Since 1992, Kazakhstan has been cooperating with JINR as an independent state. The community of Kazakhstani young scientists and specialists is one of the biggest in JINR.

Scientists of this republic are engaged in scientific work in all the JINR laboratories, take an active part in the flagship megascience projects of the Institute. Their interests also lie in the field of accelerator technology.

From 24 to 30 April 2022, the International Workshop on Nuclear and Particle Physics was held in Almaty. It was organized by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On 27 September, a round table of JINR and INP of Kazakhstan took place alongside the IV International Scientific Forum “Nuclear Science and Technologies” held in Almaty. The event became a platform for the discussion of the interaction level achieved in a wide range of cooperation formats. It was also a site to discuss prospects for the cooperation enhancement, first of all, in the fields of large-scale research infrastructure, scientific activities, and staff training.

In September 2022, Director of the Joint Institute Grigory Trubnikov took part in a meeting with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev aimed at discussing prospects for the development of nuclear science. On the same day, Academician Trubnikov met with Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bolat Akchulakov.
