Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia visited JINR

On 13 February, a delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation visited the NICA Accelerator Complex at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sri Lanka to Russia, Professor Janitha Liyanage, headed the delegation.

Janitha Liyanage and her entourage got acquainted with the progress in the implementation of the megascience project and learned about the NICA physical tasks in basic and applied research. The guests visited the main facilities of the NICA Complex: the linear accelerator, the Booster, the collider tunnel, and the MPD. In particular, the delegation explored the SOChI irradiation station, learned more about the research programme at the experimental facility and the work of the ARIADNA Collaboration on applied research at the NICA Complex. VBLHEP JINR Scientific Secretary Alexander Cheplakov and VBLHEP Deputy Head of the Accelerator Department for Scientific Work Anatoly Sidorin conducted the tour for the guests.

The delegation of the Republic of Sri Lanka included Professor Sudantha Liyanage, Personal Assistant to the Ambassador Olesya Romanova, representative of the Department of Trade and Economic Cooperation Anna Makarovskaya. Project Manager of the Investment Development Agency of the Moscow Region Ilshat Sadykov, Deputy General Director of the AlPharma pharmaceutical company Gennady Amelin, and Project Manager for foreign economic activity of the company Sergey Yankovets participated in the study visit.

The delegation arrived in Dubna to explore the Dubna Special Economic Zone, projects and products of its residents, including the biomedical cluster, as well as to visit the Altegra factory.
