On 29 June 2026, the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics hosted the opening of the international summer school entitied “Nuclear dynamics: from stars to colliders”. The event is organized as part of the Dubna International Advanced School of Theoretical Physics (DIAS-TH). The participants are students, postgraduates, and young researchers from China, Cuba, India, Kazakhstan, and Russia, united by their interest in the fundamental questions of nuclear physics and the modern methods of answering them.
BLTP JINR Director Dmitry Kazakov and Chair of the school’s Organizing Committee Nikolai Antonenko gave welcome speeches. They emphasised that the audience has a unique opportunity to attend lectures by leading theoretical nuclear physicists.
“You are fortunate to participate in the school in the year of the NICA Heavy Ion Accelerator’s launch. In the future, you can have the chance to work at a world-class physics facility”, the BLTP JINR Director noted. “This event is particularly important for you: in addition to gaining new knowledge and networking with colleagues, you get to personally interact with experienced specialists working at the intersection of theory and experiment”.
Nikolai Antonenko commented on the school’s format and planned events. He noted that this year, in addition to a rich educational programme, the participants will tour the site of the NICA Accelerator Complex at VBLHEP at JINR and visit Sergiyev Posad.
The first scientific talk – a lecture on strong interaction symmetries – was delivered by BLTP JINR leading researcher Evgeni Kolomeitsev. BLTP JINR Chief Researcher Rostislav Jolos presented modern nuclear models. Concluding the first day’s lecture programme was Head of the BLTP Nuclear Structure Sector Alan Dzhioev, who discussed the physical processes occurring in the conditions of collapsing supernovae.
The school covers the following topics:
- strongly interacting nuclear matter,
- heavy-ion collisions,
- compact stars,
- superheavy nuclei and atoms,
- excited nuclei.
The “Nuclear Dynamics: from Stars to Colliders” international school will run until 10 July. In addition to lectures, the programme includes evening discussions for the participants to review the material covered during the day.
