The Third International Workshop “Application of nuclear physics methods for the study of cultural heritage objects” has started today in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The event is organized jointly by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

Workshop topics:

  1. Priority areas in the field of research of cultural heritage objects using nuclear-physical methods;
  2. Possibilities and opportunities for the development of nuclear physics methods for the study of cultural heritage objects;
  3. Coordination and integration of activities of research groups in the field of humanities and natural sciences.

At the Workshop, participants are discussing the results achieved and the further prospects for using the following methods: radiography and tomography on neutron and synchrotron beams, neutron and X-ray diffraction, neutron activation analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis, the Mössbauer effect, other methods (resonances in nuclear reactions, PIGE, PIXE, RBS, NMR, neutron depth profiling, etc.).

English and Russian are working languages of the Workshop. The event will finish on 14 September 2023.
