A high level governmental delegation from Ethiopia headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Demeke Mekonnen visited JINR on 19 March 2016. The delegation also consisted of Minister of Science and Technology of Abiy Ahmed, Minister of Education of Shiferaw Shigute Wolassa, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Russia Grum Abay Teshome.
The guests were welcomed by JINR Director V.A.Matveev, JINR Vice-Directors M.G.Itkis, R.Lednický and G.V.Trubnikov, JINR Chief Scientific Secretary N.A.Russakovich and Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D.V.Kamanin. During the meeting, prospects of development of relations between JINR and scientific and educational centers of Ethiopia were discussed. The meeting participants agreed to keep in touch with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Ethiopia via Ethiopian Ambassador in Russia Grum Abay Teshome. Additionally, they agreed to prepare a visit of a JINR delegation to Addis Ababa in April-May of this year.
The Ethiopian delegates expressed their confidence that in the next few years Ethiopia will be able to accumulate sufficient experience in the scientific and educational relations with JINR, which should assist Ethiopia to become an Associated Member of JINR later.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Russia Grum Abay Teshome accepted an invitation to participate in the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of JINR on 5 April 2016 in Dubna.
During the visit, the Ethiopian delegation visited JINR laboratories. The guests were acquainted with the FLNR accelerator complex and the construction of the mega-project NICA.
