Winter meetings of the PACs for Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics

Organization, 18 January 2019

Next week, meetings of the JINR Programme Advisory Committees will be held in the International Conference Hall.

The 50th meeting of the JINR Programme Advisory Committee for Particle Physics will be launched on 21 January 2019.

Chairman of the Committee I. Tserruya will report on implementation of the recommendations of the previous PAC meeting. JINR Vice-Director R. Lednický will present information on the Resolution of the 124th session of the JINR Scientific Council (September 2018) and on the decisions of the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries (November 2018).

S.A. Kostromin will report on the progress towards realization of the Nuclotron-NICA project. N.N. Agapov will make a report on the infrastructure developments, including the Nuclotron. E.A. Strokovsky will share information about research coordination at the Nuclotron. V.D. Kekelidze will introduce to the audience the milestones of the second collaboration meeting of the MPD and BM@N experiments at NICA. A. Kisiel and M.N. Kapishin will report on the progress towards implementation of the MPD and BM@N projects, including simulation results using the Monte-Carlo method. The conceptual and technical design of the Spin Physics Detector (SPD) at the NICA collider will be presented by R. Tsenov.

Reports on the themes and projects approved for completion in 2019 and proposals for their continuation will be made by A.S. Zhemchugov – “BES-III: status and prospects” – and A.S. Vodopyanov – “R&D for the ALICE Photon Spectrometer”. Reports on the scientific results obtained by the JINR groups in the LHC experiments will be carried by E.P. Rogochaya (ALICE), S.M. Turchikhin (ATLAS), A.V. Zarubin (CMS).

The scientific report “Description of meson production in electron-positron annihilation and tau-lepton decays within the NJL model” will be made by A.B. Arbuzov. The agenda of the PAC PP meeting also traditionally includes poster presentations by young scientists in the fields of particle physics.

Programme of the PAC for Particle Physics

The 49th meeting of the PAC for Nuclear Physics will start on 22 January with the joint session of the PAC for Particle Physics and the PAC for Nuclear Physics for the assessment of the JINR projects and research themes in the fields of neutrino physics, astrophysics and dark matter. The session will be opened by JINR Director V.A. Matveev. The overview of the research programme will be presented by Director of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems V.A. Bednyakov. Project leaders will take part in discussion of suggested themes jointly with members of the PAC. Recommendations of the joint session will be adopted.

Chairman of the Committee M. Lewitowicz will report on implementation of the recommendations of the previous PAC meeting. JINR Vice-Director M.G. Itkis will inform the audience about the Resolution of the 124th session of the JINR Scientific Council (September 2018) and the decisions of the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries (November 2018). Concepts of new neutron sources at the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics and programme of experiments will be presented by E.V. Lychagin.

The next set of reports will be devoted to the status of the Factory of Superheavy Elements of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions: I.V. Kalagin will report on the DC-280 cyclotron, A.G. Popeko will introduce information about separators, V.K. Utenkov will make a report on the programme of Day-1 experiments at the SHE Factory, and S.G. Zemlyanoy will report on the status of the GALS set-up.

The scientific report “Charged-current neutrino-nucleon reactions in the supernova neutrino-sphere” will be made by A.A. Dzhioev.
