From 7 to 14 June 2026, the Dubna Resort Hotel hosted the 15th Alushta Conference of Young Scientists and Specialists of JINR dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. This year, the event brought together 51 participants from seven countries: Bolivia, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Africa, and Uzbekistan.
The event’s scientific programme included 10 plenary and 44 sectional talks on a wide range of topics:
- neutrino physics;
- cellular radiobiology;
- neutron physics;
- quantum field theory;
- accelerator physics;
- radiation chemistry of polymers;
- information technologies;
- nuclear astrophysics, etc.
Invited talks on various areas were presented at the conference. In addition to Egor Zadeba’s (MEPhI) scientific lecture on astrophysical nucleosynthesis, the participants listened to presentations by employees of JINR departments. Their talks featured the history of the Dubna Resort Hotel, the leisure opportunities at the Mir Cultural Centre and the JINR Gallery as well as the large-scale renovation project of the Volga Tourist Resort.
Based on the results of the sectional presentations, the programme committee selected seven best talks:
- Nikita Monakov (MLIT);
- Denis Sizov (FLNR);
- Nikita Ternovoi (Far Eastern Federal University);
- Andrey Troitskiy, Denis Potapov (VBLHEP);
- Valeria Vasileva (FLNP);
- Alexandra Yasinskaya (LRB).
The winners can participate in the competition for JINR Prizes for Young Scientists and Specialists. The organizing committee of the conference congratulates colleagues on their achievements and wishes them every success in their work!
One of the regular events of Alushta is a round table with the JINR Directorate. This year, its agenda included issues of support for young scientists, personnel policy, as well as the social infrastructure and facility management of the Institute. All proposals put forward by young scientists and specialists were recorded and taken into consideration.
In addition to the rich scientific programme, the conference offered many events that facilitated the strengthening of ties: networking games, a scientific quiz, sports competitions, an excursion on the free day, a musical concert, and much more.
Young scientists who came to Alushta for the first time shared their thoughts on their participation in the conference.
Gudani Taupedi, engineer at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at JINR:
“When I applied to attend the AYSS conference in Alushta, I did so with clear intention. As it was my first year at JINR, I wanted the experience of presenting at a conference, and also the opportunity to network, meet other young scientists from different (as well as my own) laboratories, and learn about their work.
The conference exceeded my expectations. It offered a well-balanced mix of technical talks and interactive group activities. I learned a great deal from my colleagues, both through their presentations and during informal conversations over meals.
Alushta itself is a beautiful town with a stunning seafront. However, the highlight of my trip was being placed in a random group and going off route to hike to the peak of Ai-Petri, followed by climbing along the side of a mountain. An unreal experience that I’ll never forget!
I would highly recommend this conference to young scientists who are looking to share their ideas and engage with both like-minded and differently minded individuals.”
Nikita Ternovoi, 4th-year student at FEFU: “I learned a lot about various fields for the first time at this international conference. It was very interesting to listen to the speakers, and then, by the sea or on a walk, learn more details about their research. The first things that come to mind about Alushta are the great lectures on neutrinos, the collider, as well as the talk by the invited speaker from MEPhI, Egor Zadeba.
Among the informal events, the opening, the barbecue, the trip to Ai-Petri, and the closing of the conference were particularly memorable. There were a lot of interesting people, and I hope to come next year with a new talk in English and spend my time just as productively!”
Anna Bulaeva, research intern at the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics at JINR: “This year, I joined the AYSS’s Alushta conference for the first time. I must admit, I was afraid that, being a new participant at such an event, it would be difficult for me to connect with others and fit into the group, but all my worries were in vain. From the very first day, the atmosphere between the organizers and the participants was friendly and cordial, and I felt really comfortable.
The conference itself featured plenary talks from invited lecturers and scientists from all laboratories of the Joint Institute, offering the attendees an excellent opportunity to get an idea of the research range and facilities of JINR. In addition, several talks related to the JINR infrastructure were presented at the conference, and that turned out to be just as valuable, since even long‑time JINR employees often don’t know about all the cultural and recreational opportunities on offer.
Alushta is networking, learning, fresh experiences, and the sea. I would happily participate in the conference again, and to those who haven’t tried it yet – go ahead and apply next year without a second thought!”.
The anniversary Alushta conference once again proved itself to be one of the key platforms for professional growth and idea exchange among young researchers from various scientific fields. “We are grateful to all participants and lecturers for their excellent contributions and productive work! We hope that the conference helped you find like-minded people and friends, and we look forward to seeing you in Alushta next year,” the organizing committee noted.
