Yesterday, on 19 December, the superfinal of the second season of the All-Russian popular science competition for school children and students “Science. Territory of Heroes” was held. The Joint Institute took part in the organization of the event.

20 best participants met in the format of an online quiz in the final. One of the questions for the finalists was from JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov. RAS Academician Trubnikov asked students about the task photomultipliers placed in Lake Baikal perform. Of course, the question was about the Baikal Neutrino Telescope. Moreover, there was a question about the chemical element oganesson, which was discovered in Dubna.

“Scientific revolutions are impossible without a leap of imagination and dreams. The creation of a plane, the flight to space, electricity – all this has once started with a dream of a man about flights, about conquering space. And the path of a scientist also starts with a dream. As you know, these are children who dream a lot. It’s important that the growing generation has an opportunity to dream and make their fantasies come true, including thanks to such competitions as “Science. Territory of Heroes”. I am convinced that many of the participants will realise themselves in science and will make their dreams come true,” Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Grigory Trubnikov commented on the event.

The main purpose of the competition is to evoke interest in science among young people. More than 5,000 schoolchildren and students from different regions of the country are participating in the competition at the moment.

It should be reminded that participants of the second stage of the competition already learned about the creation of the NICA collider thanks to the video excursion, as well as solved the task offered by JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov.
